Project "Education for Young People and Adults" (EPJA)

The Educational Model of the University of Azuay states that we are an academic community where we all learn.

This statement has two parts, the first implies being a community where the main thing is the constant search for the well-being of its members. The second is to be an academic institution that by principle share the belief that education is the best way to achieve this well-being.

In this sense, the Department of Human Talent together with social work identified a group of colleagues from the University who had not completed basic training and / or high school. They shared with the Academic Vice President the idea of creating this opportunity. Thanks to the support of the Rector and other University authorities, the journey began.

We contacted the Ministry of Education to find out what options we had, the first was to insert them into a program that they offered, after a few months we had to discard it due to some difficulties.

Finally, and in conjunction with the La Asunción Educational Unit, the project “Education for Young People and Adults” (EPJA) was carried out, which consists of a face-to-face accelerated baccalaureate of 11 months of basic education and 15 months of high school.

18 companions began in this formation. Life made us face something unexpected, suspending face-to-face classes due to the global pandemic. This forced them to have extra learning in the use of WhatsApp, Facebook, until they reached the use of the virtual classroom.

With the great effort of their teachers -especially Leticia Dominguez, coordinator of the project, who did not spare time to give tutorials- they achieved their objective: they finished the first phase of higher basic education, with the great motto that we all start and we all end.

For the second phase that will begin in January 2021, this group will be joined by more people who, having studied basic training, will now be able to finish their Baccalaureate.

This is more than an individual achievement, it is family and community, as they are an example for their children and for the university community.
