Project with the Avanzar Foundation graduates its first students

In mid-November, the graduation ceremony was held with the first group of women from the Avanzar Foundation, who finished their studies in handling industrial machines for clothing and advanced pattern making.

Immediately a new course began so that other women can incorporate this knowledge in the areas of computer science, administration, industrial machines and pattern making.

This training and technical assistance program to strengthen capacities and potential for micro-enterprises and sectors identified with capacity needs in different areas of Ecuador, is carried out jointly by the University of Azuay and the Avanzar Foundation.

On the part of the UDA, the schools of Business Administration and Textile and Fashion Design participate.

"The project with the Avanzar foundation has been one of the projects that has attracted my attention the most in relation to the relationship with society," explained Pedro Guerrero, director of the initiative, and added:

"Being able to carry out activities that guarantee the participation of the students that make up the foundation fills me with pride in understanding that as a University of Azuay we effectively contribute to meeting the needs of society from the academic and research fields."

María Aguilar, one of the women who graduated, said for her part that "the teachers are very professional people and they support us with all their will to acquire knowledge that is very useful to me in my undertaking as a craftswoman in the craft of sewing."

For her part, Fanny Zapata, another of the students, highlighted having met new colleagues, having more knowledge and "improving clothes to have a higher income."

The Avanzar Foundation was created in Zurich, Switzerland, in 1999 and has generated programs that meet socio-economic demands, giving women the opportunity, knowledge and resources to create for themselves a productive and prosperous life with responsibility and determination.
