Teacher training and inclusiveness program

Teacher training and inclusiveness program

Since April 5, the University of Azuay provides training to teachers of the Private Educational Unit La Asunción. Said free and voluntary course is aimed at all the teaching staff of the educational establishment, from first grade to third year of high school.

Thanks to the collaboration and coordination between the UDA, the Asunción Private Educational Unit and the Continuing Education Department, it was possible to establish this program whose main objective is to change the perspective of teachers towards a new teaching style.

The program arises as a result of an applied investigation in the educational ones. The analysis showed that teachers abide by the methodologies and perspectives of student treatment established by the Organic Law of Education, however, this new approach proposes to set aside the labels or classifications for students that, according to Liliana Arciniegas, generates segregation and discrimination among them.

Liliana Arciniegas, tutor of the degree process of the students, affirms that it is necessary to implement new methodologies in teaching.

"The differences that exist in a classroom are noticeable at first instance, that is why the application of a different form of treatment to a student with special needs is not considered necessary, but a treatment in general that does not cause discrimination within the classroom ”.

There are 35 teachers at the institution enrolled in this training program. The training will have two modules taught by the graduate students of the Basic and Special Education career Regina Hurtado, Pamela Pérez, Verónica Álvarez and Andrea Mora.

According to Arciniegas, after this training process, it is intended to analyze the reception of teachers, idealizing the implementation of these new methodologies to create a new perspective on the needs of students and harmony within the educational unit.
