Professors of the Faculty of Design between conferences and publications

The Dean of the Faculty of Design, Architecture and Art, Genoveva Malo, writes on Campus about the participation of the faculty of this faculty in the International Congress of Design Teaching and the publication of the University of Palermo in Argentina.

The University of Palermo, through its study and research center in Design and Communication, published in its "Notebook 113: The legacy of the Bauhaus, Latin American drifts", articles by professors from the UDA Faculty of Design, Architecture and Art .

The call for this edition invited researchers to reflect on the different views of the rich and complex Bauhaus phenomenon and its possible implications in Latin America, a reflection that was also part of the Bauhaus 100 International Congress that our Faculty carried out in November 2019, on the occasion of the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the foundation of this emblematic training center.

This, the first design school in the world, was founded in 1919 in Germany and was built as a proposal that sought the conception of art and total design, as a teaching and concept of life that also laid the foundations for modern architecture.

This publication is a tribute to the history and legacy of this emblematic study center.

The articles collect various perspectives and analyzes on the conceptual approaches and concrete production of the Bauhaus, as well as its possible repercussions in Latin America.

Giovanny Delgado investigates the conceptual postulates of the school and proposes the view of “The Bauhaus and ideological diversity. Bases of the discipline of design and the important influence for the academic development of Contemporary Design ”.

His article provides a reflection on the diversity of positions, thoughts, discussions and even distances that have built the referential frameworks in the project and conceptual field of the disciplinary field of Design.

Silvia Zeas takes an approach to the creative processes of one of the most renowned designers at the Bauhaus, in a setting where accessibility to studies and professionalization was limited for women.

"The creative processes of Anni Albers, textile designer at the Bauhaus School" is the title of an article that explores the references, the ways of research and conceptualization in some works of the renowned designer.

Fernanda Aguirre proposes to explore the “Bauhaus in perspective: the evolution and persistence of an idea. A look at the modern domestic space ”.

It is an article that explores the dimension of living and interior design in a Bauhaus key, in a reflection that seeks to touch one of the conceptual dimensions of this school where architecture, art and design have points of convergence: the domestic space.

In my case, I sought to contextualize the historical-cultural moments of the beginning and end of the XNUMXth century where, on the one hand, the German Bauhaus school and on the other the first Design school in Ecuador, in Cuenca, were created through “Las Bauhaus resonances in Latin America and the case of the School of Design in Cuenca, Ecuador ”

Among similarities and differences, a Latin American Bauhaus ?, seeks to understand Design and its teaching as a cultural construct in relation to context and identity.

The “Design researchers colloquium” officially presented the journal on July 31 and featured the authors' presentations.

Likewise, within the framework of the International Design Teaching Congress, doctoral students from the Faculty and some students presented their papers related to their theses and other lines of research:
