First vaccination day at the Bicentennial Campus

This Sunday, May 23, teachers, administrative staff and workers of the University of Azuay received the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

“The process was carried out in order and with normality, without major delays; we started a little later, what is expected in a process of this nature with more than 700 people summoned ”, indicated Galo Duque, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine.

After taking vital signs, those summoned were vaccinated in the auditorium of Campus Baños, where they waited a few minutes after the injection to confirm that there were no significant effects.

"There were no complications, we found coworkers with slightly elevated blood pressure, and after a break they had their blood pressure taken again," Duque said, adding:

"Those who did not lose their blood pressure were given a medicine so that they could get vaccinated today"

The Dean of Medicine reported that 37 students from the Faculty of Medicine and 12 doctors who are specializing in Family Medicine and Emergency Medicine participated in the seminar.

The vaccine supplied was Astra Zeneca which is applied in two doses. In the coming weeks the university community will be invited for the second application.

"There are certain side effects that are to be expected, a little headache, some weakness, pain in the arm where the vaccine was administered," reported Dr. Duque and concluded:

"These mild to moderate discomfort can last up to 48 hours and can be counteracted by taking a pain reliever."
