First National Symposium on Labor Law at the UDA

First National Symposium on Labor Law at the UDA

The University of Azuay hosted the First National Labor Law Symposium on Monday 12 and Tuesday November 13.

This event was the product of the joint work of the Ministry of Labor and the Law School of the UDA, and its main objective was to foster reflection on policies and reforms that guarantee dignified conditions and job stability for workers.

According to Ana María Bustos, Coordinator of the Law course, the intention was to "unite the academy with the public sector and with the private sector to debate an issue as important as labor law".

The thematic axes on which we worked were: contractual modalities and collective bargaining, contract termination, administrative summaries, social security, health and safety, labor mediation and young employment.

The opening of the event was attended by the Labor Minister Raúl Ledesma and Xavier Bermúdez, Regional Director of Labor and Public Service.

For José Chalco, Dean of Legal Sciences, "this event is an effective association of civic efforts and common objectives to translate changes and policies on workers' rights in the midst of new social challenges and that are consistent with the urgencies of our country" .

For his part, Minister Ledesma extended a congratulation to the University for the organization of the symposium and thanked "that they have allowed us to jointly carry out this initiative that serves as another demonstration that dialogue and collective construction are absolutely successful and necessary "

"The sensations that are generated after the event are, in the first instance, satisfaction and gratitude. But we must think that there are still many challenges in labor law issues, such as the sustainability of social security, "concluded Bustos after the conclusion of the two days of reflection and analysis.

The symposium, held in its entirety in the General Auditorium of the University, had 370 participants who came from Quito, Guayaquil and Cuenca.
