Presentation of the book “Of saints, virgins and demons”. A human and deeply experiential story

On November 29, the University of Azuay together with its Publishing House, presented the book “Of saints, virgins and demons: Stories of patients” by the author Magdalena Abad Rodas, an event that is framed in the fulfillment of the sustainable development objectives, mainly objective 4: Quality education.

This book tells life stories interwoven in an intimate story between doctor and patient, stories shared in the long days of hospital life, stories collected in the silent and lonely hours of the morning, stories decanted through the years, from memory and the lyrics of Magui Abad Rodas.

Characters baptized with Catholic saints as a prelude to the voice of their patients who speak of loneliness and abandonment, of fantastic loves and heartbreaks, of deceptions and absences embodied in their ailments. Stories that take place between the hallways, the offices, the wards and bedrooms of the hospitals, Patient Stories that make you smile, moisten your eyes, provoke sighs and, especially, reflect the society in which we live.

At the presentation, Raffaella Ansaloni, Vice-Rector for Research at the University, addressed those present, pointing out that this launch of this book is a great work from a more human perspective regarding medicine and, like it, is accompanied by incredible illustrations.

The presentation of the work was led by Hugo Calle, pediatrician and retired professor of pediatrics at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Cuenca, and Magdalena Abad, author of the book, who officially launched it.
