Presentation of the 5to Encounter of Design, Architecture and Art: "Design on the Footprint, Bauhaus 100"

The May 29 at the José Cordero Acosta Auditorium, the Faculty of Design, Architecture and Art presented the 5to Encounter of Design, Architecture and Art: "Design on the Footprint, Bauhaus 100", which will be carried out from the 14 to the 17 October of 2019. 

The objectives of the meeting are to encourage spaces for reflection and exchange regarding design pedagogies; On the other hand, from the review of the Bauhaus postulates, reflect on the traces of this mythical school in the disciplines of Design and Architecture today.

At the same time, the meeting seeks to disseminate the work of the students and professionals of Design and Architecture of the various institutions of Higher Education.

Learning the trade, learning by doing, taking up the roots of the arts and proposing an approach to the industry were undoubtedly postulates that made the Bauhaus a vanguard school. The Bauhaus made an effort to recover the simplicity and harmony of the design, the abstraction and the lack of ornamentation in useful forms for society.

At the inauguration were present Jacinto Guillén, Vice-Rector for Research; Genoveva Malo, Dean of the Faculty of Design, Architecture and Art; Rafael Estrella, Subdecano; María Eliza Álvarez, President of the Student Association of the Faculty; the coordinators of the event: Carla Hermida, Manuela Cordero and Fabián Cordero; teachers and students of the UDA, University of Cuenca, Catholic University of Cuenca and media.  

In the different days this meeting will feature lectures, design workshops and the National Design Hall, whose purpose is to provide professionals, academics and students of learning spaces, dialogue and exposure, both their processes and the results From his job.

The show includes different competitions in which it is called to design and project based on contemporary issues with references from the Bauhaus School.

In the presentation, Genoveva Malo said that the Design career “was conceived 35 years ago by a team of professors, architects and artists who delved into the theory-practice relationship and called on craftsmen and specialized technicians from the local area of ​​the carpentry branches, jewelry, ceramics and textiles (very Bauhaus style), to create teaching-learning spaces based on knowledge and formal exploration of the techniques that were considered representative in the region ”.

Later, Fabián Cordero, event coordinator and faculty teacher, announced the website of the 5to Encounter of Design, Architecture and Art: "Design on the Footprint, Bauhaus 100". Cordero explained that all the information about the event that will be held from 14 to 17 in October can be found on the University of Azuay website: sobrelahuella.uazuay.edu.ec and the registrations will be available from Friday's 7 on June .
