For a balanced relationship with our natural environment

The School of Biology of the University of Azuay held on October 14 the talk "Human needs, love and sustainability", led by the social psychologist esteban laso and moderated by the teacher Joaquín López.

Laso began the talk with the analysis of the pyramid created by psychologist Abraham Maslow (1908-1970) in 1943, which represents the hierarchy of human needs, which include security, love, self-esteem and self-realization.

Laso pointed out that this pyramid has been misinterpreted for years, believing that if the human being fulfilled the basic needs it would be easier to fulfill those that are at the top.

The psychologist pointed out that a person can do without certain basic needs, if he can satisfy his transcendental needs.

Then Laso emphasized the social character of our species - "the human being can never survive in solitude" - and said that we are supported by two pillars: being part of something, to what he attributes as communion, and being able to exercise control over their actions, which they call agency.

"The human being is a seed of agency that bears fruit in a field of communion", he summarized.

The social psychologist said that mental health is determined by a set of people that you love and who love you, that is, by having communion with our environment.

Finally, Laso concluded that the relationship with nature and the human must be balanced.
