New inter-institutional alliance at the UDA

On November 25, the University of Azuay, together with its Faculty of Administration Sciences, signed the inter-institutional cooperation agreement with the Non-Governmental Organization HIAS (Welcome the foreigner. Protect the refugee).

HIAS is a Jewish-American non-profit organization that provides humanitarian aid to refugees. The organization has 140 years of global experience and has been working in Ecuador since 2003, where it has 16 offices in different cities.

At the event, two agreements were signed: the Framework Agreement for Inter-institutional Cooperation between the Non-Governmental Organization HIAS and the University of Azuay and the Specific Agreement for Pre-professional Practices between the aforementioned institutions.

The main purpose of the agreements is to establish a cooperative relationship between the institutions in the professional, academic and research fields as well as to allow access to pre-professional internships for students of the Faculty of Administration Sciences, in order that they are trained in the practical-academic and knowledge fields.

In this context, the event had the participation and intervention of the rector of the University, Francisco Salgado, as well as the National Director of the HIAS Organization in Ecuador, Maricela Parra.

“Cuenca has shown us to be an incredibly supportive city and it is for that very reason that there is a high percentage of foreigners and refugees living here. For this reason, for the HIAS Organization it is an honor to be able to create inter-institutional cooperation ties with the University of Azuay ”, the National Director mentioned in her speech.

Oswaldo Merchán, Dean of the Faculty of Administration, thanked the parties for their support of the Faculty he represents and its students, who will benefit mainly in the pre-professional field.

The agreements are valid for 3 years from the date they are signed and will be evaluated annually by delegates from the entities who will inform the executive authority of each institution on the progress of the cooperation. They will be considered automatically renewed if neither party informs the other of its wish not to continue with the agreement.

Authorities from the University of Azuay attended the event as vice-rectors and deans; Regarding the HIAS Organization, authorities at the national and local level attended.

Finally, the parties accepted and ratified all the terms and stipulations contained in the clauses of the agreements and proceeded to sign them.
