Women who inspire science

Women who inspire science

On March 6, the meeting “Women who inspire Science” was held, event that is framed within the fulfillment of the sustainable development objectives, mainly objective 4: Quality Education.

The event was attended by authorities, teachers, administrative staff from our university community and students from the La Asunción Educational Unit.

Starting in 1975, the United Nations commemorated International Women's Day on March 8. Since then, the UN and its agencies have worked tirelessly in the gender fight.

That is why the University of Azuay, through the Ecuadorian Network of Scientific Women (REMCI Nodo UDA), joins this commemoration with the event that seeks to inspire and motivate future generations of adolescents.

The welcoming words were given by Francisco Salgado, rector of the University of Azuay, who pointed out the importance of inviting young people to these meetings because they are the ones who will be involved in this transformation, emphasizing that education is the only vector that will change the world and where adolescents play a key role.

In turn, Verónica Heras, deputy dean of the Faculty of Design, Architecture and Art, pointed out that the University is a place where dreams and careers are promoted, a place where equality and equity are fully experienced.

Once the interventions were finished, the TED talks were given by four important speakers: Raffaella Ansaloni with the topic “Research in Higher Education centers”; María Elena Cazar, with her talk “The woman agent of change in society”; Lorena Orellana with the presentation “Navigating the Process of my Doctoral Research” and finally Juanita Bersosa with the topic “Women in politics.”

The closing speech was given by our academic vice-rector, Genoveva Malo, who invited the public to awaken science, research, art and culture from the perspective, strength and sensitivity of a woman.

This was a great opportunity to highlight the commitment of our authorities to women who do science and practice in the field of teaching, thus highlighting the importance of the search for equality in these spaces.
