Women in the UDA: the best space to promote development in equity and freedom

Every March 8, International Women's Day is commemorated, a day full of symbolism to recognize the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, as well as highlight the continuous fight for equity, gender equality and rights. rights of women around the world.

Currently, women are present in all fields of knowledge, both in science, technology, and the humanities and arts. Their presence in classrooms and in research is essential to foster and strengthen the diversity of perspectives and the exchange of ideas in the academic world.

This is how we highlight the career of Genoveva Malo, academic vice-rector of the University of Azuay; Verónica Heras, deputy dean of the Faculty of Design, Architecture and Art; María Fernanda Lema, secretary of the Faculty of Science and Technology and Paula Vega, student of our university and outstanding athlete.

Genoveva affirms that the University of Azuay is that “good place” that encourages and allows the growth of women in equity and equal opportunities; It is the space of democracy and full development par excellence.

The University, of universality, of diversity, is the space where we learn and grow together, in freedom, in equity, with rights and opportunities shared by all members of the community, he emphasizes.

She is convinced that science, art and culture are enhanced and nourished by the gaze of women who contribute every day with work, perseverance and a lot of effort.

In turn, María Fernanda emphasizes that the institution has opened its doors to her and has been a space that has allowed her to fulfill one of her greatest dreams, having a degree. She also emphasizes that the University is a safe space for women to develop freely and contribute significantly to the academic field.

For her part, Verónica points out that in society the transformation in terms of equality and equity has been happening more slowly, but where a profound change can be felt is undoubtedly in the University.

“Here I feel that men and women, regardless of their age and condition, have the same duties and obligations; But above all we realize that here women who do research, who want to dedicate themselves to science or any other field, have the opportunity to do so” says Verónica.

Also, Paula highlights both personal and academic growth, where it has undoubtedly been of great contribution to her, receiving support from an institution that has opened the doors to both the academic and sports world is invaluable.
