Artistic exhibition and dialogue table to reflect on gender violence

Within the framework of the events for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, which is celebrated on November 25, the University of Azuay continued with a series of activities to emphasize the importance of this day.

On November 29, the Faculty of Philosophy, Letters and Education Sciences organized the event “Campaign of stigma and gender”, while a day later the inauguration of the exhibition “Dunamis: Testimonies of hope ”, Winner of the public competition for the promotion line“ Culture for human rights ”.

Sonia Pacheco, project manager, indicated that “a group of surviving women participated in this initiative, who under the direction of the visual artist Janneth Méndez and the photographer Fernanda García, produce a series of collages in which we represent our reconstruction achieved through of faith in God ”.

"The project was born from the need to seek to influence other survivors, using hope in reconstruction, proposing a visuality away from anguish and impotence," added Pacheco.

On November 30, the dialogue table on internet gender violence and its treatment in the Organic Penal Code: Pornovenganza took place, under the framework of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

This event was organized by the University of Azuay, the Secretariat of Human Rights and the Legal Office of the UDA.

María Esperanza Neira, Director of Zone 6 of the Human Rights Secretariat, indicated that structural problems such as discrimination and gender violence have now been transferred to the field of digital platforms.

“The questions that we posed in the forum sought to clear up questions related to the fact that if our legal system adequately responds to the need to prevent these acts that violate human rights; whether or not once they have occurred they are part of the catalog of crimes in current criminal law and what are the problems faced by victims when accessing the administration of justice seeking reparation ”.

For the official, "the Ecuadorian State has regarded the country's girls and women as the highest priority, therefore the role of the academy is fundamental when achieving this purpose."

"It is essential that the academy actively participate by allocating resources for research, since one of the key strategies is the contribution of professors and students in the creation of spaces for debate that become true tools of public policy," concluded Neira.
