"Beyond defense and attack: Assessment as a learning alternative"

On May 4, the Publishing House of the University of Azuay presented the book "Beyond defense and attack: Evaluation as a learning alternative" by the authors Daniel Prieto Castillo, Carlos Guevara Toledo and Ambar Célleri Gomezcoello.

For the presentation, Genoveva Malo Toral, Academic Vice Chancellor, spoke in which she expressed her satisfaction with the publication of the book, considering it a reason for celebration. She highlighted that it is an essential work that she calls to assume evaluation as a tool to promote and accompany student learning.

Additionally, he stressed that it is not just another theoretical book, since the authors contribute their own experiences. Likewise, the Vice Chancellor referred to the title of the book as very attractive and highlighted the content that addresses issues of philosophy and reflections on pedagogy, as well as experiences of the academic life of the authors themselves. In short, it is a complete work that offers a comprehensive approach to evaluation in education. 

To talk more about the book, its author left several statements. -This book is dedicated to reflection on evaluation in a space such as education. Because as educators and educational institutions we are responsible for the results and consequences of the evaluation. The evaluation in education has been a pending matter and an unresolved problem, due to its conception and the lack of active integration in the learning processes- expressed Guevara Toledo.

Continuing with Guevara Toledo's statements in relation to the book, he spoke of how important the participation of students is in all the strategies planned by the teacher and advocated for an evaluation that promotes motivation for learning and some edges for this are : constant research, promote mutual respect and trust.

Finally, the Rector of the University of Azuay, Francisco Salgado Arteaga, expressed that education is key to transform lives and allow peoples to advance. In addition, the Chancellor commented that young people are capable of doing better things than previous generations, which is especially important in a university environment such as the UDA, which values ​​caring for the community and the environment. In this sense, the book in question becomes a learning opportunity that will allow students to acquire the necessary knowledge to contribute to the development of a more just and sustainable society.
