Manuel Antonio Muñoz Borrero: the unknown years

On May 22, the University of Azuay together with its Publishing House presented the book “Manuel Antonio Muñoz Borrero: the unknown years” by the author Gonzalo Ortíz Crespo; event that is framed within the fulfillment of the sustainable development objectives, mainly objective 4: Quality Education.

The event was attended by authorities, teachers and students from our university community, friends and family of the author. 

This publication reveals an unknown period in the life of Muñoz Borrero, the Cuenca diplomat who was consul of Ecuador in Stockholm, where he offered passports to Jews persecuted by Nazism, which is why after his death he was declared “Righteous among the nations.” ”.

The book narrates the life in Bogotá of Manuel A. Muñoz B, followed by several writings of the diplomat during his stay in Colombia: his degree thesis, the Travel Notes (written in 1913 during his trip from Cuenca to Bogotá), among other writings .

The welcome speech was given by our rector, Francisco Salgado, who expressed his gratitude to the author for sharing this important story, with a vocation for service for the benefit of the community.

After his intervention, dialogue began between Ana Isabel Malo and Esteban Coello, commentators on the work, who together with the author presented some questions and concerns about this story, thus creating an extremely interesting space for the public.
