The rights of the city move to the UDA

From the 4 to the 6 in October, the City Studies Congress (CIVITIC 2017), organized by a network of 11 universities, was held at the University of Azuay.
The inauguration of the event, which took place on Wednesday in the UDA Auditorium, was in charge of the host rector, Francisco Salgado, whose intervention was followed by the exhibitions of the architects Fernando Carrión and Antonio Di Campli.
During the three days of the Congress, more than 60 exhibitors participated, both national and international, who analyzed various topics around four main areas: heritage, urban economy, governance and the right to the city.
The inscriptions were open to all public, not only students and teachers, because -as explained Carla Hermida, coordinator of the event- to be a topic on urbanism its problems involved all of us who live in the city.
Students from Cuenca attended the event but also from other cities in Ecuador such as Machala, Loja and Quito.
In addition to the conferences and the "dialogue tables" that took place in the UDA, the Congress counted on complementary activities in different places around Cuenca such as the Central School and the Café República Sur.
CIVITIC is the University Network of Urban Studies of Ecuador created from the Habitat 3 Alternative event, held in Quito in October of 2016, which convened a group of specialists in the urban area with the aim of articulating alternative spaces for dialogue on issues of the city.
In this framework, CIVITIC has proposed to debate, reflect and investigate urban issues in Ecuador, from an inter / transdisciplinary perspective (architecture, sociology, politics, anthropology, economics, among others) and comparative.
"We managed to talk about different city issues from different perspectives, that gave urban studies a lot of wealth," concluded Carla Hermida, adding that the next congress will be held at 2018 at the Catholic University of Santiago de Guayaquil.
