Leonardo Valencia presents his work “The Nomadic Moon”
On January 29, the University of Azuay and its publishing house, as part of the Week of Contemporary Ecuadorian Narrative, presented the book "The Nomadic Moon" by writer Leonardo Valencia. This event was aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals.
The event was attended by authorities, teachers, administrative staff and students from our university community as well as students and teachers from the La Asunción Educational Unit and the general public.
The Nomadic Moon, by Ecuadorian writer Leonardo Valencia, was originally published in 1995 by a small publishing house in Lima. It is the author's first book.
The Nomadic Moon is not a static book of stories, but a "progressive" and constantly evolving work. Originally published with eight stories, it has grown and changed over thirty years and ten editions, reaching this 2026 version with twenty stories.
Valencia's narrative moves in a hybrid border between fiction and essay, exploring themes such as travel, uprooting, literary memory and an obsession with language.
The meeting began with words from Toa Tripaldi Proaño, director of the University of Azuay Publishing House; where she indicated that this is a space to share with young and old, with old and new readers, about these great works of Ecuadorian literature.
Following this, a discussion was held about the presented work, which included the participation of Leonardo Valencia, author of the title; Cristóbal Zapata, poet, narrator, literary and art critic, curator, editor and cultural manager, honorary professor of the University of Azuay; and Cristina Flores, graduate in Language, Literature and Audiovisual Languages, and master in Latin American and Spanish Literature, cultural producer and manager of artistic projects, with experience in the co-production and dissemination of contemporary cultural proposals.
Thus, the Week of Contemporary Ecuadorian Narrative concluded its third meeting with the presentation of the book, on this occasion, by Leonardo Valencia with a work that teaches us to look at the journey with lucidity.
