Launch of the book "Modernity Memories"

On March 18, the School of Architecture of the University of Azuay and the National Institute of Cultural Heritage (INPC) presented and launched the book "Memories Modernity”, published by the Publishing House of the UDA.

The book is a compilation of the research presented at the academic event: "Modernity, new views of Ecuadorian heritage, identification and valuation of the Urban Architectural Heritage of Ecuador", held in 2019.

The research is part of the inter-institutional cooperation agreement that exists between the INPC and the University, which aims to establish a general framework of technical-scientific cooperation in which the mutual transfer of knowledge, experiences and information inherent to management is possible. comprehensive cultural heritage.

The works that make up this book highlight the importance of the generation and validation of documentation and identification tools and instruments for the enhancement of modernity in Ecuador.  

Francisco Salgado, Rector of the UDA, stressed that it is important that there is a conjunction between institutions and expressed that “the wonderful thing about architecture and heritage is that it is the inhabitants who give meaning to the works or buildings that arose in the imagination, in the minds of the creators ”.

Salgado mentioned that, without a doubt, this book is a symbol of identity. In the end, national identity is a genesis, it is an ethnogenesis, it is a construction, and that is why all cultural institutions are contributing to something fundamental for the country, since identity goes with us throughout all the journeys of our lives. , in time and space.

Santiago Vanegas, Coordinator of the School of Architecture, commented that “this book is the result of the compilation of several articles that address modern heritage from different scales, methodologies, theoretical assumptions; it is the work of many, there is its great value ”.

In addition, Vanegas thanked all the national speakers who responded to the invitation to the congress and especially those who decided to submit their research to the review and process of the scientific journal.

The event ended with the words of Patricio Zamora, Zonal Director 6 of the National Institute of Cultural Heritage, who explained that “recovering our identity is everyone's task, and in that sense, we have seen in the University of Azuay a strategic ally that we it has made it possible to generate activities, processes and projects to enhance the protection and safeguarding of our cultural heritage ”.
