Launch of manual for environmental management
On April 22, the Cuenca Botanical Garden launched the International Cooperation Manual for environmental management of the Parish Autonomous Decentralized Governments (GAD) of the Cuenca canton.
The event was organized by the Universidad del Azuay and the Environmental Management Commission (CGA).
The presented manual seeks that the Cantonal GAD and the rural Parish GADs of the Cuenca canton can implement, in an articulated manner, programs and projects to guarantee the environmental quality of the canton.
It also seeks to preserve and conserve species of flora and fauna, the conservation and protection of water sources and the awareness and training of citizens towards the responsible care of natural resources.
According to Ana María Bustos, Coordinator of the Law School and one of the authors of the work, “the International Cooperation Manual is the fruit and the proof that environmental management can be articulated”.
Bustos added that this management, to be effective, "must necessarily involve all the actors linked and obliged to carry it out."
Finally, Pedro Palacios, Mayor of Cuenca, commented that "this shows the affection, passion and integrity of putting knowledge into practice in useful tools that are already being used."
