The UDA creates the Bolívar Echeverría open chair

This June 5 marks the 10th anniversary of the death of the most important Ecuadorian philosopher in the country's history, Bolívar Echeverría Andrade, and the Universidad del Azuay honors him with the open chair that bears his name.

The Coordinator of the new chair, Diego Jadán, explains that the interest in creating the Chair of Humanistic Studies and Thought was born from the Rectorate of the University.

“Rector Francisco Salgado sought, on the one hand, to recognize the great contribution of this philosopher to Latin American thought; on the other, to create in the UDA a space for reflection that joins other existing ones but that is dedicated to humanistic reflections from different disciplines ”.

The Bolívar Echeverría Open Chair also considers the objectives established in the Institutional Strategic Plan 2017-2021 of the Universidad del Azuay, such as promoting academic reflection, feedback of experiences, integration and dissemination of knowledge.

Also, to promote dialogue between national cultures and of these with universal culture; the dissemination and strengthening of its values in Ecuadorian society; the professional, technical, and scientific training of its students, professors, and researchers, contributing to the achievement of a more just, equitable, and supportive society, in collaboration with state agencies and society.

The chair will be made up of different activities. Some, explains Jadán, will be devoted to the study of Echeverría's thought, its impact and importance; others will approach contemporary philosophical and humanistic debates.

This space proposes a seminar per cycle and a monthly meeting open to the university community. In addition, the editorial activity will be promoted with the elaboration of publishable articles generated in the seminar and in the monthly meetings.
