The UDA welcomes CINTERANDES and its humanitarian work with its new mobile operating room
On Friday, September 29, the new mobile operating room of the CINTERANDES Foundation was inaugurated at the University of Azuay, an event that is part of the fulfillment of the sustainable development objectives, specifically Health and Wellbeing.
CINTERANDES Foundation is a non-profit organization created more than 30 years ago by Doctor Edgar Rodas Andrade, a prominent doctor and professor in the city and founder of the Faculty of Medicine of this University. In 1994 his dream of a mobile surgical unit came true, this being the first mobile operating room in the world. Thanks to the support and commitment of volunteer doctors, CINTERANDES has since carried out surgical missions in the most remote and needy areas of the country, to care for low-income people who do not have access to these services.
The mobile operating room, after 29 years, had already reached its useful life, which is why it had to be replaced and thanks to the support of philanthropists and companies, both local and foreign, the Foundation resumes its activities to continue its humanitarian work throughout the equator.
At the event, the academic vice-rector of the University, Genoveva Malo, mentioned that “the mobile operating room is not only a medical unit, but it is an intangible symbol to bring medical help to the people who need it most” and that through this mobile operating room, Dr. Rodas' legacy will continue to live on, touching the lives of many people and bringing hope and relief wherever needed. It is a tribute to his immense heart and his commitment to humanity.
