"To the U by bike" a new alternative and sustainable mobility project

The University of Azuay, in line with its objectives and the SDGs, is committed to moving towards the decarbonization of transportation in its university community, promoting more sustainable mobility.

The "To the U by bike" project responds to the need to change mobility patterns that prioritize the use of private vehicles, which leads to problems such as congestion, polluting emissions, lack of physical activity and an individualistic mentality when traveling to the city. University of Azuay.

The project is based on making a total of 19 electric bicycles available to the university community that can be requested for use for one month. To purchase them, participants must complete a survey before and after their ride and in turn record their movements on the bicycles through a mobile application.

The main objective is that each participant has the opportunity to experience a different form of mobility and evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of this means of transport. It mainly seeks to involve people who usually travel to the University by private vehicle, so that they can compare costs, travel times, comfort, motivation for travel, among other aspects. However, the project is also open to people using other modes of transportation.

Thus, the University of Azuay encourages its university community to use more environmentally friendly transportation alternatives and encourage the adoption of more responsible mobility practices.
