"Literature is an extension of thought"

"Literature is an extension of thought"

On January 27, the presentation of the fifth edition of the Casa Tomada Magazine was held, which confirms the will of the collective to continue working in the midst of current adversities.

"Despite not being the first line of combat in this adversity, we are the first line in the fight for our identity and our culture," said Eliécer Cárdenas, director of the magazine, at the beginning of the event.

This edition has texts from the ELAN group, which contributed to Ecuadorian poetry since the last century; including Eugenio Heredia, Efraín Idrovo, Jacinto Cordero, Teodoro Vanegas and Arturo Cuesta.

It also contains, among other texts, an article by the Rector of the UDA, Francisco Salgado, who was in charge of welcoming those attending the event, and another by Carlos Pérez Agustí, director of the Casa Tomada collective, who thanked the University del Azuay for their support.

"Literature is, in some way, an extension of thought and we need to think to know that we are surviving and to give a reason to the moment we are living, to give meaning to suffering, to give meaning to the nonsense of pain," said Pérez and concluded :

"The undeniable reality of the pandemic does not exempt us from our own responsibility: to use literature as a tool to try to interpret this amazing present."
