The University of Azuay, through its postgraduate program, offers for the first time the opportunity to pursue a master's degree in Philosophy between the academic period from March 2021 to September 2022.

According to Diego Jadán, Coordinator of the master's degree, “we constantly make decisions, we take actions, we say what we think; however, many times these decisions are not considered, these actions are not viewed from their possible consequences, those words are not the product of a judgment ”.

"The study of Philosophy helps everyone to understand the complexity of the world around us and our inner world as well," adds Jadán.

On the other hand, the Coordinator of the program comments that, in recent decades, both the study of Philosophy and the Humanities have weakened because of "a utilitarian and pragmatic thinking" that has put aside its importance to focus on academic training in areas that respond to market demand.

This motivated the University to bet on opening this academic space and those who wish to aspire to the master's degree can register until January 22, 2021; The necessary requirements are that they have the third level title registered in SENESCYT, in addition to having knowledge of English.

Registration can be done through this link: https://posgrados.uazuay.edu.ec/programas/posgrados/5769 or on the university website.

The course lasts 24 months with a total investment of $ 6.500 and has been designed so that professionals from different branches such as Communication, Law and Social Sciences in general find in their philosophical training a complement to their usual activities, allowing them to adopt a perspective analytical and critical.

The study program includes eleven modules in which you can learn Philosophical Anthropology; History of Philosophy; Logic and Argumentation; Semiotics and Applied Philosophy. In addition, it has four lines of research such as Moral and Political Philosophy; Esthetic; Epistemology and Philosophy of Language.

Due to the pandemic we are going through, the modality of the classes will be blended: there will be modules that are taught virtually and others in person with the respective biosecurity measures; however, it is hoped to adapt it so that it is fully delivered virtually for out-of-town residents.

Finally, Jadán affirms that the graduate profile of the master's degree in Philosophy is a professional with a deeper knowledge about contemporary philosophical problems, likewise, graduates of different professions will be able to acquire knowledge and skills to expand, enrich and problematize the various aspects of its disciplinary origin.
