The Colombian Truth Commission disseminates its work in Ecuador

The Commission for the Clarification of Truth, Coexistence and Non-Repetition of Colombia has been working since the beginning of 2019 in Ecuador with non-governmental organizations, groups of people who are victims of the Colombian armed conflict and universities to launch a process of documentation of testimonies.

The objective is to contribute to the clarification of the truth and the construction of explanatory patterns around the civil conflicts in the neighboring country.

In this framework, on July 17, a talk was held about the nature and objectives of this body in our country, organized by the Faculty of Legal Sciences of the University of Azuay, the ASO of the Faculty, the FLACSO headquarters Ecuador and the members of the commission.

"The event arises as an initiative of the commission that works its mandates in order to launch a process of documentation of testimonies that contributes to the clarification of the truth and the integral reparation of the victims of internal conflicts", explained the professor of Sciences Legal Kinti Orellana and added:

"Taking into account that there are many Colombian refugees in our country because of these conflicts, the Commission is working in Quito with Flacso and in Cuenca with the University of Azuay to spread its work and scope."

This Friday's talk was aimed at the UDA student community and specifically at Law and International Studies students, as well as the general public, in order to socialize the work of this commission.

It is hoped that through this type of event it will also be possible to identify people related to the conflict to motivate them to give their testimonies and thus be able to contribute to the work of the commission.

“It is important to touch on these issues since with them we can contribute to the clarification of the events that took place in Colombia and that have direct ramifications for our country, as we have a large number of Colombian refugees, so that their rights can be restored. within the framework of one of the most emblematic peace processes in Latin America ”, concluded Orellana.
