Quality in organizations

Quality in organizations

On February 10, the Network for Organizational Studies and Technology (REOYT) held the conference "Quality in Organizations: The Hidden Curtain of Standardization" given by Miriam Escobar, a teacher attached to the Universidad del Valle in Cali, Colombia .

Dr. Escobar, who is also the founder and researcher of the Quality and Productivity in Organizations group at the same university, launched her book “The hidden curtain of standardization: quality in organizations” in 2018.

At the conference he explained what were the doubts that arose for the creation of the text.

He commented that the book arises from the project of his doctoral training, where he found the novelty that the practices that actors did within an organization to establish standards had not yet been studied.

Standards are that mark of quality that is seen through norms, which is offered under the promise of being the way to competitiveness of an organization, for the good of society.

Based on this reflection, Escobar considered it important to recognize what the organization's actors had been taught about standardization and what was the possibility that these standards could really give the expected fruit, that is, if they really help in the progress of the same organization.

Finally, the doctor in Administration Efraín Naranjo, who moderated the conference, considered an invaluable merit to establish these spaces where a subject that deals with the Latin American reality can be discussed, since, normally, we are directly influenced by the North American management schools that it has different historical connotations that we cannot demonstrate.
