The beauty of Ecuador through foreign eyes

The beauty of Ecuador through foreign eyes

The University of Azuay, in conjunction with its Publishing House and the French Alliance of Cuenca, presented the book "Parenthesis in Ecuador", by the author Karine Bernadou.

The event was attended by Martha Cobos, Academic Vice Chancellor of the UDA; Antoine Lissorgues, Director of the French Alliance of Cuenca, and Tamara Landívar, Director of Culture of the Municipality of Cuenca.

Likewise, Hipatia Anchundia, President of the French Alliance of Portoviejo; Charles Vix, Cultural Director of the French Alliance of Quito, and the author of the book.

This project was born after Bernardou's participation in an authors' residency organized by the French Alliance network in Ecuador, during his six-week stay in the country.

The author visited different provinces of the country in a unique and intimate experience that will take the reader to the wonderful landscape of the Ecuadorian territory, through its history and beauty.

On the other hand, this work was carried out within the framework of the "Year of Comic", an initiative of the Ministry of Culture in collaboration with the National Book Center and the International City of Comic and Image.

In the same way, Antoine Lissorgues mentioned that the illustration book has a window to the comic genre, which is not as developed in Ecuador.

The work reflects a particular sensitivity of the country that allows one to delve into a diversity of themes through illustration, which invites wonderful places that reflect the identity of different provinces and cultures in the country.

The author indicated that her gaze as a foreigner tried not to be merely touristy, but rather sought a more substantial understanding to translate it into an artistic work.
