"Games of pre-Hispanic origin in southern Ecuador", a book by Oswaldo Encalada

On February 06, the University of Azuay together with its Publishing House presented the book “Games of pre-Hispanic origin in the Ecuadorian south” by the writer Oswaldo Encalada; an event in harmony with the Sustainable Development Goals.
The event was attended by authorities, teachers and administrative staff of our university community, family and friends of the author and the general public.
The book explores the oldest forms of play in the pre-Hispanic cultures of the Andean region, and specifically in southern Ecuador. The book includes misha, hairu, pucara, and games with beans and jurupis, all of which were popular in our country until a few decades ago.
The launch of the work began with the words of Francisco Salgado, rector of the University of Azuay, who pointed out that this book puts the public in a playful, celebratory environment, which gives meaning to the community and allows us to celebrate the true meaning of thought and culture.
Julia Martínez, a teacher at our institution, presented this work, where she commented on the educational value of this work, whose reading has been a reunion with childhood, friends from the neighborhood, emotions and the importance of play in society throughout history.
Finally, the author, Oswaldo Encalada, launched his book and expressed his gratitude for the support provided; he also mentioned that the work delves into the history of the Azuay and southern peoples and pays homage to nostalgia through games that are no longer played today.
