On May 22, the University of Azuay and its publishing house presented the book "Juan Cordero Iñiguez or the Discipline of Being," by authors Carmen Lucía Cordero and Patricio Romero y Cordero; an event in line with the Sustainable Development Goals.
The event was attended by authorities, teachers, administrative staff, and students from our institution, renowned officials from our city, officials and members of the Archdiocese of Cuenca, family and friends of the honoree, and the general public.
With the goal of preserving the memory of the country's prominent historians, the National Academy of History, under the direction of Dr. Juan Cordero Íñiguez, began publishing the "Academics of History" collection in 2010. Volume 8 is dedicated to Dr. Cordero Íñiguez, in recognition of his life dedicated to historical research and the dissemination of knowledge, both through his numerous publications and the creation of the Museum of Aboriginal Cultures in Cuenca.
The launch began with remarks from Francisco Salgado, rector of the University of Azuay, who expressed that this is a moment of great joy as this event not only celebrates a work of art, but also a life dedicated to knowledge, history, and community service. He emphasized that Juan Cordero has been a forge for both the University of Azuay and the city, and that his legacy inspires us to build a better future, as he always did.
The presentation of the work was made by César Alarcón, director of the National Academy of History, who emphasized that for the institution this event represents a transcendental step, since writing has been an essential pillar in the development of humanity, and this recognition is especially significant because it concerns someone who has dedicated his life to knowledge, history and the generous task of sharing his ideas with society.
The official launch was carried out by the authors, Carmen Lucía Cordero and Patricio Romero y Cordero, who expressed the privilege of addressing the public in such a significant and emotional space. They emphasized that the book, composed of seven chapters, presents an extraordinary biography of Juan Cordero Íñiguez, an illustrious figure who has left a mark on academia, literature, and the cultural life of the city and the country. They emphasized that this life biography highlights not only his intellectual dimension but also his human qualities, showing that discipline is a way of life that allows one to achieve fulfillment.
Juan Cordero Iñiguez, founder of the University of Azuay and renowned chronicler of the city, also took the floor to share a reflection during the presentation of his biography. He expressed his gratitude for the recognition of his work, the fruit of years of research, teaching, and commitment to the country's history and culture, and especially thanked his family, whose support has been fundamental to his intellectual and personal journey.
