Knowledge and Culture Days analyze biodiversity

This December 2, the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Azuay and the School of Biology presented as part of the Knowledge and Culture Conference the talk “Is the high diversity of tropical forests mediated by the interactions between plants and insects? ? ”.

The first to speak was Andrés López, Dean of the Faculty, who stressed the importance of providing these spaces that encourage dialogue, not only within the university community but also in open spaces for the general public:

"With these meetings, it is hoped that we can fulfill the mission of the University of promoting links and research, but now seeking to reach the entire society.

On the other hand, Boris Tinoco, member of the Academic Board of the School of Biology, highlighted how to seek to encourage the participation of women in this area of knowledge, since within the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) only in 10 % of its members are women, one of them the speaker of the meeting: María José Endara, professor at the Indoamérica University.

Endara presented several of the results of its current research on plant species found in the Ecuadorian Amazon.

His work is part of a collaboration between the Indoamérica University and the University of Utah and focuses on collecting data to determine the coexistence of herbivores and plants in the same biodiverse space.
