Research on mantis lichen observed in Gullán

The article "Natural history of Pseudopogonogaster hebardi (Terra) (Mantodea: Thespidae)" -prepared by professor Sebastián Padrón of the School of Biology, Ecology and Management- and José Manuel Falcón, biologist of the Entomology Laboratory, has been published Chilean journal of Biotaxa Entomology.

The research describes for the first time some morphological, ethological and relationships with other species; In addition, new distribution localities of this endemic species of mantis from southern Ecuador are added.

In this publication, which was born from an undergraduate thesis, the El Gullan Scientific Station played a key role.

"It allowed us to establish ecological and ethological studies in situ of this species, since it is one of the several interesting organisms that inhabit the forests of this place; We were also able to collect and use environmental data from this area for the reproduction and rearing of specimens in the laboratory, "explained Padrón.

Currently the species P. hebardi is studied in the Entomology Laboratory of the University of Azuay to understand evolutionary biology processes, phenotypic plasticity and speciation processes, concluded the research professor.
