Research with a gender perspective

On May 14, the Research Coordination of the Faculty of Legal Sciences held the event: "Open Chair on Gender and Law: epistemology, gender and research", with the participation of Moira Pérez, professor of Philosophy at the University of Buenos Aires.

The speaker discussed issues related to the contributions of critical epistemology to research with a gender perspective, and delved into how these approaches can generate methodologies and techniques for social research.

Pérez works on what she calls “epistemology between the margins”, which consists of the analysis of the different epistemological currents that usually do not reach the knowledge legitimization systems.

In his words, these non-hegemonic perspectives provide us with tools to interrogate our knowledge and how we relate to this knowledge, and here also how we approach the question of gender comes into play.

"It seeks to broaden the hegemonic gaze in relation to gender, to understand beyond it, having better results in relation to human rights," said the speaker, adding that it is not just a matter of observing a phenomenon:

"We observe the society in which we develop and in which we are constantly intervening," concluded Pérez.
