The workshop cycle for women of the Avanzar Foundation begins
On Saturday 17 March was held at the University of Azuay the inaugural module of the School-Workshop in handling of industrial machines for clothing and basic pattern designed for women belonging to the Avanzar Foundation.
This course, which had as its subject the teaching of basic computer science and was taught by Gabriel Barros, had the participation of 10 students.
Estefanía Cevallos, a professor at the Faculty of Administration Sciences and director of the workshop cycle, was present for the inauguration of the first module, which marks the beginning of six months of training for low-income women.
"The project seeks that a vulnerable group of society is trained and has a trade. The idea is that women can go out to find a job and have the endorsement of the University, "said Cevallos.
The project of the School-Workshop intends to train women in fields such as textile pattern making, clothing making, computer bases, administrative and economic knowledge, among others.
The University of Azuay is not solely responsible for providing support, facilities and teachers for the realization of the project, but also delivered supplies such as notebooks and pencils to each of the attendees of the first module.
Thanks to the work of the Faculty of Administration Sciences, in collaboration with the School of Clinical Psychology, the School-Workshop has materialized as a project of connection with the community after one year of its conception.
Cevallos highlighted the importance of the support of the Universidad del Azuay through its schools, since "they will be in charge of training them as small businesswomen and providing the support and mental motivation for the ladies to continue with the course".
The School-Workshop, to which fifteen women have enrolled, will be taught only on Saturday mornings. After six months of classes, the University will provide all students who have passed the modules with a certificate of continuous training in the handling of industrial machines for clothing and pattern making.
