Mining Engineering analyzes the limits of open pit mining

On June 8, within the framework of the Knowledge and Culture Conference of the Faculty of Science and Technology, the videoconference "Determination of the limits of a final pit" took place, organized by the School of Mining Engineering.

As explained by the School Coordinator, Leonardo Nuñez, it is about establishing the final limits in an open pit mining operation, this can be both for metallic and non-metallic minerals, as well as for arid materials used in civil constructions.

"This is intended to give security to the works, optimize processes and not affect the areas beyond what is strictly necessary, in order to later mitigate the impact of the intervention," said Nuñez.

The Coordinator added that this topic was chosen because, in the School's curriculum, this technical procedure is one of the most important that students study.

The speaker, Christian Ordoñez, graduated as a Mining Engineer from UDA and has currently completed a Master's Degree in “Mining Engineering & Land Systems” from the Colorado School of Mines Golden, Colorado USA.

“It is super important to be able to be together in this type of event, today more than ever where the presence is the exception; You can learn about past, present and future projects, experiences and professional activities, generating healthy feedback from colleagues that helps us to be better, ”concluded Nuñez.
