Inauguration of the Safe Mobility project: creating a peaceful and healthy environment
On September 13, the University of Azuay together with its School of Architecture inaugurated the “Safe Mobility” project in collaboration with the Mobility Directorate and EMOV EP, in order to guarantee safer and more efficient mobility, protecting pedestrians, cyclists and drivers who circulate in our city.
This meeting began at the House of Service to Society of the University of Azuay, where a group of members of our institution and the municipality of Cuenca, began a bicycle tour along the city's cycle paths and ended at the central campus where the opening ceremony was held.
The event was attended by authorities, teachers, administrative staff and students from our university community, authorities and members of the Cuenca Municipality, other institutions in the city and the general public.
The welcoming remarks were given by Francisco Salgado, rector of the University of Azuay, who addressed the public mentioning that this space has been created to put the human being at the center, where their well-being is not compromised and they live to the fullest. He also stressed that it is time to think in a different way, where cities are designed and built for pedestrians, where people walk at a human pace and enjoy nature.
For this reason, our rector expressed his gratitude to those who took part in this important project, which gives meaning to the city and tenderly cares for the lives of all of us who live in Cuenca.
In turn, Valentina Guillen, president of the Sports Association of the University of Azuay and representative of the beneficiaries of this work, pointed out that thanks to this project, the new cycle path and the tactical urbanism interventions, spaces have been gained that promote security through friendly spaces for the community in general.
Finally, Fernando Valencia, city councilor, addressed those present on behalf of the mayor of Cuenca, Cristian Zamora, who mentioned that this project becomes a safe reality for all those who make up the University of Azuay and affirmed that this project is the reflection of the joint commitment to sustainable development and to improving the quality of life in our environment.
The event ended with a musical performance by our university's band, the Blue Beats, who filled the audience with energy and enthusiasm.
