Speaking of Communication from the perspective of gender
In the framework of the events by the 30 years of the School of Communication, the 17 of January was held the workshop "Communication and Gender" in the Multiple Use Room of the University of Azuay.
The Spanish teacher Ana Dolores Verdú, professor at the Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja, started the workshop with the warning that she would not read the gender issues in the media, but would provide "an anthropological view".
"Gender," he added, "is not an inexplicable phenomenon, it is a sociological construction that can be studied from many dimensions: the material, the structural and the symbolic."
Then he analyzed the reification of the female figure - "the interpretation of the woman's body as a commodity" - and the naturalization of male violence in three communicational areas: advertising, television programs and news treatment.
"What is normalized in the media is normalized in everyday life," concluded Verdú, to emphasize the importance of studying the treatment of gender issues in the media offer.
