Food Engineering Group will travel to Germany on a scholarship

On July 2, the UDA School of Food Engineering received a positive response to its scholarship application to the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

This international service allows each year the possibility for students and teachers from all over the world to have a stay in Germany. At the same time, the beneficiaries have the possibility to study, teach or research in the country.

The objectives of the scholarship focus on establishing contacts and strengthening links between institutions, as well as an exchange of knowledge and experiences in culture, politics and economics.

In order to obtain it, it was necessary to comply with the requirements established by the German Academic Exchange Service, Ecuador headquarters, led by ex-grantee and scientific ambassador José Jara.

“Although it was complex, we knew we could meet the requirements and we decided to submit a proposal with a group of students; we took a risk and, fortunately, at the beginning of this month, we were awarded one of the DAAD scholarships ”, commented Diego Suárez, professor of Food Engineering and precursor of the application initiative.

The call was sent on November 16, the application for the scholarship was uploaded on April 29 and, two months later, on July 2, the good news arrived: 15 students with a professor (Diego Suárez) become recipients of a scholarship which includes plane tickets for each one, to and from the country and 50 euros a day for maintenance.

Those favored will travel on October 3 to return on October 17. On the trip, they will be able to enjoy activities related to their branch of studies, such as visits to universities, food factories, educational institutes and public institutions; Likewise, they will enjoy extracurricular activities that will allow the exchange of cultural values. The group will travel through the cities of Berlin, Munich and Karlsruhe

“Although we have made the best effort on our part, it is necessary to thank the institutions that supported and helped us. In addition, it is necessary to extend gratitude to the Department of International Relations of the University of Azuay because without their help we would not have been able to do it, "said the teacher and added:

“The student group meetings were held on a biweekly basis, always in English, which will be the language in which the visits will be made in Germany. During these meetings, organizational and training issues were discussed in the specific areas that will be discussed with the institutions to be visited ”.

The activities to be carried out in Germany will allow for closer ties with the institutions to be visited, opening future opportunities for collaboration and the possibility of complementing the training of future professionals.
