Forum to promote Cuenca as a biosecure tourist destination

The month of July began at the University of Azuay with the inauguration of the “First National Tourism Forum of Ecuador, FONATUR-2021”, which was held jointly by the UDA, its School of Tourism, the Cuencana Municipal Tourism Foundation and the Consortium Export World Ec.

The event was attended by national, local and academic authorities, as well as the tourism sector in general.

“National and local tour operators participated in the National Tourism Forum; accommodation, food and beverage establishments, artisans; the municipalities of Quevedo, Manta, Portoviejo, Riobamba, Patate, Baños, Santa Isabel and Cuenca; Prefectures of Manabí, Chimborazo, Pichincha, and Ciudad Mitad del Mundo ”, indicated María Angélica León, Director of the Municipal Tourism Foundation for Cuenca.

Among other objectives of the event, it was sought to show Cuenca as the perfect tourist destination in Ecuador for business meetings, congresses, conventions, incentive trips and events.

"Position Cuenca as the first city to organize biosecurity events at the national level, respecting the biosafety protocols for the meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) industry," added León.

The work that the Cuenca Mayor's Office -through its Municipal Tourism Foundation- has undertaken together with the sector to make the capital of Azuaya the first biosecure destination in Ecuador was also disseminated at the national level.

That is why it was sought to establish direct approaches and alliances with representatives of companies, brands, institutions and enterprises of the tourism sector in the region and the country.

Also, recognize the companies, institutions and organizations that have contributed and supported the tourism sector during times of the pandemic, and that have currently innovated.

"As part of the organization, students who are currently in the fourth cycle studying Protocol management and Public Relations had the opportunity to be part of this great initiative for tourism development," added Natalia Rincón, Coordinator of the School.

On the first of July, the day the event began, a framework agreement was also signed between the University of Azuay and the Ministry of Tourism of Ecuador, through which they will work together to promote and develop tourism in Zone 6.
