Signing of an Interinstitutional Agreement between the University of Azuay and CELEC EP

On May 15, the University of Azuay signed the Interinstitutional Cooperation Agreements "Monitoring of the Biotic Component" and "Hydrological Connectivity of Soils, Lagoons, and Quantification of Ecosystem Services" between the University of Azuay and CELEC EP; an event in line with the Sustainable Development Goals.

The event was attended by authorities and members of our university community, authorities and members of CELEC EP, and the general public.

The first agreement aims to conduct comprehensive monitoring of the biotic component in the area directly influenced by CELEC EP's generating plants. The second agreement focuses on deepening our understanding of water flow between the various elements of the páramo, in order to identify hydrological ecosystem services, as well as other essential provisioning services for the region.

The welcoming remarks were delivered by Raffaella Ansaloni, Vice Rector for Research at the University of Azuay, who expressed her satisfaction at participating in this important ceremony formalizing two agreements. She emphasized that these agreements are significant, as they recognize the work done in the areas of conservation and hydrology in the region. She also highlighted the joy of this collaboration, which has enriched the existing database and provided valuable information in the hydroelectric field.

Miguel Andrade, manager of the CELEC EP Business Unit, expressed his pleasure at being part of this meeting, emphasizing that the development of the sector is only possible through coordination between business, academia, and the community. He emphasized that this joint effort reflects a firm commitment to sustainable development, research, and environmental responsibility.

Once the interventions were completed, the inter-institutional cooperation agreements were signed.
