Pottery exhibition

The 7 in June at the House of Service to the Society of the University of Azuay, the exhibition of the work carried out in the training workshops for the pottery artisans of the Pacchapamba community (Parroquia San Miguel de Porotos, Azogues, Cañar) .

The workshops were carried out within the framework of the "Project of Community Connection" between the School of Design of Objects of the University of Azuay and the Municipal GAD of the city of Azogues.

"I would say that this exhibition is the story of a bonding experience that took place with a community of pottery artisans who work in ceramics," said Genoveva Malo, Dean of the Faculty of Design, Architecture and Art.

The professors José Sanmartín and Carlos Pesántez were the ones who worked for a year in the training workshops for artisans.

The teachers went every Friday to work with them and the topics discussed had to do with recovering ancestral techniques. Artisanal pottery was given as the work with clay in the traditional pots and vessels that they make, it gave a new aesthetic sense with the use of new designs, intervention of new materials and even chromatic.

The Dean of the Faculty commented that the artisans are satisfied with the results obtained: "They are very happy because in the artisan fairs that they do every Sunday they have been selling more their products and for that reason we have considered that it was a very good moment to show them, now, in the House of Services "

The fact that the pieces have a greater share of design has made these have more market acceptance. The innovation dictated in the different workshops placed these creations in a place in the market both artisanal and urban.

"In this project did not participate students, but would like to renew the agreement and that little by little there is more intervention of them. We hope that this is projected and that it continues because it has a lot of potential ", concluded Genoveva Malo.
