Tourism students participate in international forum

On December 3 and 4, two students from the UDA School of Tourism participated in the “I Pan-American Student Forum CONPETH 2020: Future generations give their opinion”, through the Zoom platform.

Students from various countries participated in the forum and the objective was to hear their point of view on topics chosen by the moderators of the different panels.

On Thursday 3 it was the turn of the UDA student Diana Guartatanga, who participated in the panel on the third sustainable development goal (SDG): "Guarantee a healthy life and promote well-being for all at all ages."

The question that our Tourism student had to answer was about how tourism activity can intervene to achieve SDG 3, to which she replied:

"Tourism represents 10,4% of world GDP, these economic income can be beneficial. In the case of Ecuador, tourism magnates made this economic contribution for the construction of a hospital, which was a benefit for the community where it was installed, but also created a positive image of a destination, making it look safe for visitors " .

On Friday 4, student Belén Córdova participated in the panel dedicated to the fourteenth SDG: "Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development."

The question was similar to the previous one: "How do you think tourism can intervene to achieve SDG 14?"

“Underwater life is one of the main most diverse resources for the development of tourist activity, especially in coastal or island areas. Only in the Galapagos marine reserve, it has been possible to find around 3.500 species of flora and fauna, of which 22% are endemic to the area ”, Cordova answered and concluded:

"Tourism has the potential to become one of the main activities that promote maritime care and conservation."
