Medical students travel to the Karolinska Institute, one of the most important medical centers in the world

María Cristina Arias and Daniel Sacoto are preparing their bags because the last months of the year will find them at the Karolinska Institute, the Swedish university that has been considered one of the most prestigious medical centers in Europe for decades.

Both are students of the Faculty of Medicine of the Universidad del Azuay -the latter in a cycle, he in the twelfth- and prepare to take the post left by Ana Isabel Cordero and María José Jaramillo, the first two students of the UDA They traveled to Sweden.

"They represented the University so well that for this opportunity a scholarship was incorporated and we left with this scholarship", says Daniel, who is doing a boarding school that ends in September and the 9 in October leaves for Stockholm.

María Cristina will travel in August, to be present in the week of introduction before the start of the rotations. She chose to rotate through general surgery, plastic surgery and gynecology-obstetrics.

"It is a unique opportunity, which will allow me to grow personally and academically. I really like what surgery is, so being in one of the ten best universities in the world where they do surgery with robots is going to be a great teaching, "says the student.

The process began with a meeting with the students who had traveled first who told the aspirants about life in Sweden, the costs, the rotations in the Institute and answered questions from the students.

"Then the Dean held a new meeting and there they asked us for a motivation letter explaining why we wanted to go there and we also had an interview," says Daniel.

"Other factors that took into account was the average number of grades we had and they had also asked the doctors with whom we rotated and we have classes that qualify us," adds María Cristina.

Daniel concludes that his greatest expectation is to represent the UDA so well that afterwards there is "an exchange with boys from both universities and that it is not only two who will go there but more."
