Medical students dismiss the year with the most vulnerable

The Association of Students of Medicine for Exchanges (AEMPI) of the University of Azuay and its Committee for Public Health (SCOPH) culminated the year 2016 entertaining people in a vulnerable state as seniors in asylums and children with limited resources.

The "Hogar Miguel León", which houses 65 elderly people, and the "María Amor" foster home, a place that mainly receives mothers and children who have suffered intrafamily violence, enjoyed two days full of activities together to the more than 40 volunteer students of Medicine.

Andrea Abril, a student in the fifth cycle of the race, commented that this type of projects benefit the community and at the same time the members of the committee.

"We have made a voluntary collaboration within our faculty in order to bring a smile to the people who live in these centers. Through playful activities, magic shows, clowns, delivery of a snack, clothes and toys, we try to share with them on these dates and spend a special day ".

Each year, students give their time to these people in order to have an approach to their years as professionals.

"We seek to help the community by starting with these small projects from the point of view of public health and works of social benefit, which at the same time helps us as future professionals," concluded Erika Arpi, member of SCOPH.
