Postdoctoral stay at the UDA

The doctor in Chemistry Alondra Idrovo is doing a postdoctoral stay in the Chemometry and QSAR laboratory of the University of Azuay, thanks to a scientific collaboration with the University of Buenos Aires.

Idrovo graduated in Food Engineering from the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Azuay in 2008, 13 years later, she returned to the campus as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the National Council for Scientific and Technical Research (CONICET) of Argentina, to work with Professor Cristian Rojas, professor-researcher at the University of Azuay.

"Together with Cristian we are developing an investigation in Computational Chemistry with the aim of forming a database of antioxidants to later make a modeling in QSAR and Chemometrics, it is a scientific contribution in which the two Universities have joined forces" said Idrovo .

During her stay, Idrovo will work as a researcher on the application of quantitative structure-activity relationships for the study of the antioxidant capacity of various bioactive compounds in food.

“With this research we create a link between the two Universities with a perspective towards future collaborations, it is the first time that a postdoctoral stay has been given and it has been possible thanks to Professor Rojas and the authorities of the University of Azuay who have opened the doors for me to carry it out, ”he commented.

Dr. Idrovo is a Magister in Food Industrialization Technology, a specialist in Bromatology from the University of Buenos Aires and is currently working on research in the area of crop residues and industrialization of vegetables applied to the isolation of polymers and bioactive compounds, useful for the development of food materials, ingredients and additives.

His postdoctoral stay at the Universidad del Azuay will last an estimated six months.
