Labor Meeting 2023: strengthening employability and economic development at the University of Azuay

On June 8 at the Tech Campus of the University of Azuay, the "Labor Meeting 2023: Generating Opportunities" took place, organized jointly by the UDAPRO Job Exchange and the public employment exchange of the Ministry of Labor. The event was developed within the objectives of inclusive and sustainable growth, employment and decent work.

The labor meeting was attended by Rafael Vásquez, director of labor and public service of Cuenca; Ruben Tamayo, coordinator of the UDAPRO Job Exchange and authorities of the University of Azuay. In addition, important representatives of business and institutional groups attended.

The main purpose of this event was to promote and strengthen the link between the job opportunities offered and the demand for employment by citizens and the university community. This space seeks to provide job opportunities and options for organizations to disseminate their activity and strengthen their hiring processes.

Some of the various recognized companies that settled in the UDA were: PROAUTO Mirasol Corporation, La Europea, Gerardo Ortiz Corporation, Atimasa, Banco Pichincha, Alborada, Association of Young Entrepreneurs of Ecuador, among other prestigious companies.

Francisco Salgado Arteaga, Rector of the University of Azuay, emphasized the crucial moment in the UDA's mission, which consists of providing a significant contribution so that young people have the opportunity to access the world of work. This approach acquires relevance because it allows individuals to achieve their personal fulfillment and obtain the necessary income to lead a dignified life. In the same sense, Rafael Vásquez highlights the importance of collaboration between academia, the public sector and the private sector, with the common objective of promoting employability.

María Elena Márquez, PROAUTO human talent coordinator, explained to us the profiles they were looking for at the fair. -We are growing nationwide in cities like Cuenca, Quito and Guayaquil. The profiles we are looking for are for the administrative, commercial and post-sales part. Nor do we have problems with profiles that do not have experience, since we are innovating this part of the seed processes- she commented Márquez.

During the job fair, we had the statements of David Arévalo, vice president of the Association of Young Entrepreneurs of Ecuador. -We bring together young business partners at the national level from different business areas, from start-ups to large business groups at the national level. We also act as connectors with the talents that are presenting themselves and we bring some vacancies and we hope to continue generating these ties and links. It is the first time that we are at this fair and we have seen very interesting profiles- said Arévalo.

On the other hand, María Gabriela Carrillo, director of human talent at Banco del Pichincha, shared the objectives of the bank at this job fair. -The objective is to open a range of opportunities for young talents, in the technological area we are looking for technical profiles, in database processing, in the commercial, financial, and business administration areas, but we are also looking for more traditional profiles. And due to the digital path that we have taken, we no longer receive resumes physically, now we do it through web banking- said Carrillo.

In conclusion, this event was consolidated as a meeting space between employers and people looking for a job, promoting employability and contributing to economic and social development. Undoubtedly, this job fair leaves consolidated pillars in the promotion of employment and the promotion of opportunities for the professionals of the future.
