Autism Spectrum Disorder and its inclusion in Basic General Education: presentation of the work
On June 19, the University of Azuay and its publishing house presented the book "Autism Spectrum Disorder and its Inclusion in Basic General Education" by author Cayetana Palacios; an event in line with the Sustainable Development Goals.
The event was attended by authorities, teachers and administrative staff of our institution, family and friends of the author, and the general public.
The work begins with an analysis of the legal aspects surrounding the inclusion of children with specific educational needs, systematizes the historical context of concepts, classifications, and specificities of ASD, and delves into the inclusive approach to children with ASD in regular basic education—the theme and title of the work—by breaking down the content into a few essential topics.
The welcoming remarks were delivered by Genoveva Malo, Academic Vice-Rector of the University of Azuay, who expressed her joy at kicking off this academic celebration and noted that this work represents a personal and meaningful experience, aligned with the humanistic vision that characterizes the University. She emphasized the importance of recognizing differences and recognizing abilities from a human and empathetic perspective.
The book was presented by Lucía Ruiz, who emphasized that this release represents a valuable contribution for professionals who have felt the need to deepen their knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). She noted that the book is specifically focused on the health field and underscores the importance of raising awareness and addressing these conditions with the commitment and sensitivity they require.
The book launch was led by the author, who expressed that this day represents a very significant moment in her life, sharing a part of her personal story related to the reality of inclusive education in the country. She emphasized that inclusion is a fundamental right and that this work emerges as a useful tool, a guide designed to contribute to the field of education.
