The rescue of Chilean miners analyzed by the School of Mines

This November 4, the Faculty of Science and Technology and its School of Engineering in Mines presented the talk "Engineering in the planning of the rescue of the 33 miners of San José - Chile", in the context of the Knowledge and Culture Conference.

Fernando Silva, who was part of the team of rescue planners in 2010, commented on the complexity involved in being part of this project:

"The problem was not minor, the rescue was unique."

Silva also summed up the global upheaval that this incident had, emphasizing the support they received from the Chilean people.

"The joke was made that even the president wanted to come down, there were many people," commented the exhibitor.

The rescue team consisted of 18 people, of whom only four went down to the collapsed area.
