The vaccination plan added as headquarters the Central Campus

At the beginning of June, the vaccination plan against Covid-19 began at the Central Campus of the University of Azuay.

In the initial phase of this project, the vaccination of people over 65 years of age was carried out, to then continue with the segment of the population over 50 years of age who have a chronic disease established by the Ministry of Health, according to the list determined for the most vulnerable sector of the population.

People attend the inoculation on Campus from 7:30 am to 16:30 pm to be attended by health personnel.

Juan Pablo Holguín, a professor at the Faculty of Medicine, tells us that, together with the Ministry of Health, between 200 to 300 people a day have been scheduled to attend, however, there was no large influx in the first days and it is expected that this changes when the information is in the public domain.

Dr. Holguín added that it is very important that those who suffer from a chronic disease that appears on the official list must present the respective medical certificate; Likewise, people who should have received their vaccination in previous phases and could not do so (doctors and first-line health personnel) can approach the vaccination centers.

Additionally, a new call has been opened in which pregnant and lactating mothers will be able to access the service with the corresponding certificate.

The Faculty of Medicine participates in this program with its teachers and students in a very active and committed way. Their presence has been fundamental since the vaccination plan began at the Bicentennial Campus.

Today the University has put its two campuses at the service of society: Central and Bicentennial with the great commitment of the Faculty of Medicine.

Diana López is the doctor of the Ministry of Health who is in charge of the vaccination point in the Central Campus and the students of the Faculty contribute with the taking of vital signs, patient care and in the inoculation process, comments the doctor Holguín.

The University has begun a process of academic reactivation in the Central Campus, however, the vaccination point will continue in this location since it has been programmed that the return to academic activity will be gradual, since the return proposal exclusively contemplates internship activities and work in workshops, support for graduation assignments, tutorials and accompaniments.

The plan has also considered the reception of second cycle students who did not have the opportunity to start their careers on the University Campus, sharing in person with teachers and classmates. Each race has scheduled activities with its students to fulfill this purpose.

For the University of Azuay, its professors of Medicine and students, it has been very important to host this National Vaccination Plan in which it has contributed with commitment, knowledge, humanistic vision and hope in better days for our society.
