The world of our children

On October 14, the Universidad del Azuay presented the book "The world in which our children will live" by the author Kurt Freund Ruf, former Rector of the Universidad del Pacífico. The nine chapters that make up the text guide a formula with which, through education and knowledge, some foundations for a better future can be built.

The event began with words of welcome from the Rector of the University, Francisco Salgado: "A fundamental task of the University is to anticipate the future, that is, to live among ourselves, what we would like society to live later."

Next, Rebeca Castellanos, Rector of the National University of Education (UNAE) and commentator of the work said that “the issue of the future is a concern that has its roots in history and is present in those of us who are committed to leaving a legacy with our actions".

The author, through his work, offers a hopeful message because the future of the planet is in our hands, in science and technology.

A broader development of education is necessary, one must move from an acquisition of information to the acquisition of skills that allow understanding and not just memorizing.

"What we need most is education, that never ends because every day with new technologies we have new challenges and things to learn," said the author of the book.

In addition, complex problem solving, critical thinking and analysis, creativity, originality, initiative, and leadership and social influence are part of the components that allow for a better future.
