On June 10, the Rector of the University of Azuay, Francisco Salgado, met with the Minister of Tourism, Niels Olsen, at the House of Service to Society of the University of Azuay to discuss future projects to link with the School of Tourism.

The visit was aimed at signing a new framework agreement that will benefit students and the tourism industry in the country.

"The idea is to work all the part of rural tourism, tourism within the city, and identify new products that can encourage the reactivation of tourism, since it is one of the areas most affected by the pandemic," said Natalia Rincón, Coordinator of the School of Tourism.

In 2018, the first framework agreement was signed between the University of Azuay and the Ministry of Tourism, in which three products were to be delivered within tourism planning, promotion and dissemination, and education and empowerment.

The students of the Master in Tourism and the School of Tourism identified the vocation of the traditional neighborhoods of Cuenca, promoted new workshops in the field of the tourism sector and finally worked on an investigation on post-COVID -19 consumer behavior as a national tourist.

The new framework agreement will allow generating new impulses and innovations in the tourism field, through the analysis of the current situation of the tourism industry and the reactivation of the different areas related to the field of services such as accommodation, food and outdoor activities free.

The projects will be implemented from the next academic period and will mainly help to promote local and national tourism.
